Boil Water Alert Lifted

Verona officials announced at noon today that the boil water alert that was issued on August 9 has now been lifted.

The town is recommending that we run all interior faucets for 3 to 5 minutes, empty and clean automatic ice makers and water chillers and, if you have a water connection with a water softener, run it through a regeneration cycle following the manufacturer’s directions.

Verona issued the boil water notice on Wednesday at the recommendation of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection after a water main break in the Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) system. Verona has had to buy all of its water from the PVWC since August 2021 after our well water failed to meet stricter state standards for chemicals known as PFAS.

Verona is remediating our well water by installing new filtration devices at the wellheads. One of our well connections, in the Verona Community Center Annex at Linn Drive, will be back in service next year. But the other, located on Fairview Avenue across from Verona High School, will not be operational until 2025.
